News > Former Lt. Governor Joy Corning endorses Mark Rees for Congress

(West Des Moines) – The Rees for Congress Campaign announced today that they have received an endorsement from Former Lieutenant Governor Joy Corning in the 3rd District Republican Primary.  The announcement adds to already building momentum for Rees who received the endorsement of the Des Moines Register on Monday.

“I have met Mark several times during his campaign and know he is a man of straightforward honesty and integrity,” Corning said.  “While we may not agree on each and every issue, we do agree that the General Election will be won or lost in the Republican Primary.  Mark’s inclusive, fiscally conservative, and issue-driven candidacy is what Republicans will need to attract independent voters and defeat Leonard Boswell in November.”

Corning was first elected to the Iowa Senate in 1984.  She served as Lieutenant Governor with Governor Terry Branstad from 1991 – 1999, and then became the first woman to run for governor in the Republican Primary.  Corning now heads the Iowa Republican Leadership Council, a group that promotes a return to a platform of fiscal responsibility, personal freedom, strong national defense, and engaged foreign policy.
